Thank you for your interest in Michael Anthony Guitars. After 28 years in the medical profession I decided to pursue my 'second calling' as a guitar luthier. The same passion, skill, knowledge, and attention to detail that went into making me a successful medical practitioner is applied to every guitar I build. My goal is to listen to what you want and then exceed your expectations.
When you buy a guitar from Michael Anthony Guitars, an "Anthony" guitar is exactly what you get. The woods I use to build my guitars are purchased in billet, or block form. From these billets, I cut and shape each and every part necessary for the construction of my guitars. I use many tools in the process of building a guitar, but none of them are CNC operated.
I feel everyone deserves a well made guitar and I offer 3 different guitar 'options' to help make this possible. The 'Custom' option is for those who know exactly what they want from a handmade guitar and can justify paying for those wants. My '7 Series' guitars are basically "off-the-shelf" or "production" guitars. These guitars are still handmade from the same high quality materials as my 'Custom' guitars, but are limited to my own specifications. Building to my specifications limits the 'personalization' of the guitar by the purchaser, but allows these guitars to be more affordable in price. The third option is my 'Themed' guitars. These guitars are customized, one-of-a-kind instruments that allow the client to express special interests or hobbies by selecting a particular 'theme' for the appointments on the guitar.
The Anthony Slope Top is a design modification that I developed as a way to make larger guitars more comfortable to play (i.e. dreadnought and jumbo) without having to sacrifice any of the top wood. There are a number of "wedge", "slant top", and arm "bevel" designs out there and they all look great and make the guitar more comfortable to play. The Anthony Slope Top is a different approach towards achieving a similar goal, but intended on preserving as much top wood surface as possible. I'm confident that once you experience the feel and comfort the Anthony Slope Top provides, while preserving the tonal qualities you expect from a high-end instrument, you'll wonder how you got along for so long without it. (Pictures are coming, I promise!)
